A cold storage expansion starts with how the room will be used. The required space is important, but the refrigeration scope also depends on the product, operating conditions and movement through the facility.
Define the operating requirements
Identify the product, target storage conditions, incoming product condition and typical loading pattern. Explain how often doors will open and how goods move between receiving, storage, preparation and dispatch. These details help the project team establish the requirements that equipment selection must address.
Review the existing facility
Document the current room layout, refrigeration equipment, electrical service and available equipment locations. Existing drawings and equipment records are useful, but site conditions still need to be confirmed.
An expansion may involve more than adding refrigeration capacity. Access, drainage, controls, doors and coordination with the building work can all affect the final scope.
Plan the work sequence
- Identify areas that must remain operational.
- Confirm delivery and equipment-placement access.
- Coordinate the refrigeration scope with electrical, building and other trade work.
- Allow for installation checks, startup and handover.
Make responsibilities clear
Agree on who provides the room construction, electrical work, refrigeration work, project drawings and any required specialist services. Define assumptions and outstanding site questions before a final scope is accepted.
Think beyond installation
Equipment needs safe, practical service access after the project is complete. Discuss how it will be inspected and maintained, and how the facility team will receive operating and service information.
ADN can review your proposed expansion and discuss the refrigeration installation, retrofit and ongoing service requirements with your project team.
