Illustrative refrigeration scene

A display case replacement is a merchandising decision and a refrigeration project. Choosing a case that looks right is only the first step. Its intended product use, refrigeration requirements and fit within the store need to be reviewed together.

Start with the product

Identify what will be displayed, how it will be packaged and the operating conditions the equipment needs to maintain. A case intended for one product category should not automatically be assumed suitable for another. Confirm the application and the manufacturer’s operating requirements before committing to equipment.

Review the complete installation

Check the footprint, overall height, door clearances and customer circulation. For remote equipment, review the refrigeration system and piping requirements. Electrical connections and condensate drainage also need to be part of the scope.

Existing equipment should be assessed before deciding that it can serve a replacement case. Matching the physical length alone does not establish system compatibility.

Plan delivery and removal

  • Measure the delivery route, including doors, corners and elevation changes.
  • Confirm when old product and equipment can be removed.
  • Identify floor, wall or service work required before installation.
  • Coordinate responsibilities with electrical, plumbing and other trades.

Consider the store schedule

Agree on the work sequence, access hours and any temporary arrangements before the replacement starts. A staged plan can help everyone understand when merchandising, equipment removal, installation and startup need to happen.

Put the scope in writing

A useful proposal identifies the equipment, included work, trade responsibilities, site assumptions and items still requiring confirmation. Photographs and a current floor plan help establish a clear starting point.
